How to quickly select progressive lens channel?

The fitting of progressive lens has always been a hot issue in the optometry industry. The reason why progressive lens is different from single light lens is that a pair of progressive lens can solve the problem of the old people can see clearly from far, middle and near, which is very convenient, beautiful and can also cover the age. So why is it that such an “excellent” product has a penetration rate of only 1.4% in China, but more than 48% in developed countries? Is it because of the price? Obviously not, xiaobian believes that the success rate of progressive matching is closely related to.

The success rate of progressive fitting is influenced by many factors, such as customer’s expectation, product exaggeration, data accuracy (optometry prescription, pupil distance, pupil height, ADD, channel selection), lens frame selection, etc. Many optometrists in their work will struggle with the selection of the channel. Today, Xiaobian will share with you how to choose the progressive channel.

After consulting some information and asking some experienced optometrists, they all agreed that we should not define what kind of channel is suitable for customers solely from the “frame height”, but need to consider the following factors:

1. Age of the customer

Generally, middle-aged and old people under the age of 55 can choose both long and short channels, because THE ADD is not too big, and the adaptability is also ok. If the ADD is greater than +2.00, it is best to choose the long channel.

2. Get used to reading posture

Customers wear glasses to see objects, if accustomed to moving eyes, not accustomed to moving head, it is recommended that long and short channels can be. If you are used to moving the head, not used to moving the eyes, it is recommended to choose a short channel.

3. Customer adaptability

If the adaptability is strong, the long and short channels can be. If the adaptability is poor, it is recommended to choose a short channel

4. ADD photometric number (ADD)

ADD within + 2.00d, both long and short channels are acceptable; If ADD is greater than + 2.00d, select a long channel

5. Vertical line height of the frame

Select short channel for small frames (28-32mm) and long channel for large frames (32-35mm). It is not recommended to choose frames with vertical line height within 26mm or above 38mm, especially if the frames with large size are selected for short channels, in order to avoid discomfort and complaints.

6. Eye downrotation

When choosing channels, we should also consider the customer’s eye downspin and other problems. Theoretically, the older the customer is, the weaker the downspin will be, and the size of the recent addition degree ADD increases with the growth of age.

Therefore, even if the elderly customers have high ADD, but the downrotation force of the eyes is found to be insufficient or not lasting enough after the examination, the symptoms of not being able to reach the effective near light area and seeing the near blur may occur if they choose the long channel or the standard channel. In this case, it is also recommended to choose the short channel.
