China. Luxottica Group cooperated with CDFG to exclusively launch its optical glasses category in the global travel retail sector.
The new optical glasses series was launched at the Haitang Bay Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Center, and Ray-Ban and Burberry brands under Luxottica Group were unveiled.
This category is designed for prescription eyewear wearers and has driven sales growth. Burberry’s optical eyewear series accounted for a high single-digit percentage of the brand’s total sales in the first two months.
According to the company, the early success of Ray-Ban and Burberry’s launch of optical glasses at CDF Mall paved the way for more Luxottica Group brands to enter the emerging eyewear market.
Luxottica and CDFG also launched Ray-Ban’s clear lens series for over-the-counter wearers. The series attracts travelers who want to wear clear glasses for fashion purposes. The lens is equipped with blue light filtering technology to protect the user’s eyes from the damage of the digital screen. They also have photochromic lenses, which darken when exposed to sunlight.
In August, Luxottica Group launched the third category of non-sunglass products in the CDF shopping mall, and launched snow mirrors from Oakley, which is a sponsor of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Enrico Destro, Global Travel Retail Director of Luxottica said: “As part of our lasting commitment to this strategic area, Luxottica is pleased to launch a new optical series with our long-term partner in China Duty Free Group.
“Our common goal is to provide our distinguished travel retail consumers with the first-class and broadest eyewear category. We are now expanding the eyewear category beyond sunglasses to meet the diverse and changing needs of our valued customers.”
Since its debut in July, Burberry’s optical glasses series has made a significant contribution to the brand’s total sales
Li Mei, Vice President of CDFG’s Central Purchasing Department for Fashion, Accessories, Watches and Jewelry, added: “China Duty Free is honored to be the first travel retailer in the world to launch Luxottica’s latest innovative eyewear products.
“These new categories have made great strides in meeting the unique needs of our consumers, and this resonates with our customer-centric philosophy. Seeing Burberry and Ray-Ban’s early success in optics is very worthwhile, and we believe The latest category will also contribute to the growth of glasses in this channel.”
